Existing RO system owners

Your RO water isn't nearly as pure
as you think it is.

There are two problems with every under-sink RO system that most people never find out about — until they understand why their water doesn't taste as good as it used to.

Steve explains the two problems with every under-sink RO system — and why the SD5 has neither of them.

Problem 1

TDS Creep

Every time your RO unit shuts off after filling its storage tank, the concentrated contaminants left on the dirty side of the membrane stop being flushed away — and immediately start migrating back through to the clean side. That's TDS Creep.

When the unit turns back on the next morning, the first water off the membrane can be as dirty as your raw water. Gradually improving as the unit runs — but all that temporary high TDS water goes straight into your storage tank. Every cycle of your RO unit the TDS reading in your storage gradually creeps up higher and higher.

It's not uncommon for TDS Creep to degrade your storage tank water quality so that instead of 95% removal you could be getting only 75%. Or less.

And that's assuming your membrane is performing at its rated peak — which it rarely does in real world conditions between replacements.

More details covered in the video

Watch Steve's video above for a detailed breakdown of exactly how TDS Creep affects your water quality — and what the numbers actually look like.

Problem 2

Bacteria

Every time your RO unit shuts off, the membrane sits stagnant and dirty — night after night, month after month, year after year. Your under-sink RO is essentially a bacteria breeding machine.

The FDA documented in 1980 that bacteria can grow right through RO membranes and multiply in pipes downstream. That warning was written for industrial settings. Imagine what's happening in an under-sink RO that never gets sanitized.

That bacteria adds a flavor to your water you definitely don't want. Does your water taste as good as it did when the system was new? Now you know why. Be sure and watch Steve's video to understand how adding UV and ozone don't completely protect you from this bacteria problem.

How bacteria gets into your RO water

The same conditions that led to TDS Creep originate the bacteria problem. When the unit cycles off, the high concentration of contaminants on the dirty side of the membrane immediately stops getting flushed down the drain and migrates back to the clean side and then sits stagnant all day or overnight until the unit turns on again. And dirty membranes breed bacteria.

The SD5 solution

The SD5 solves both — completely.

The SD5's dedicated 2-gallon flush tank backwashes all 5 membranes with purified water every time the unit cycles off. The membranes are always clean before the unit ever sits idle. No stagnation. No bacteria. No TDS Creep.

  • No TDS Creep — membranes flushed clean every cycle
  • No bacteria problem — ever
  • 99%+ removal — real world, not just peak performance
  • Always fresh, crisp, clean great tasting water
  • Pressurized — feeds your ice maker and pure water taps throughout your home — without worrying about a growing bacteria problem in these distribution lines like undercounter ROs
  • 75 to 100 gallons per day
  • Standard inexpensive parts — no proprietary anything, buy anywhere online
